Choir Season is
Here!
YOUTH CHOIR BEGINS 15TH YEAR.
All Covenant Youth and their friends in 7th-12th
grades are encouraged to join the 2006-07 Covenant
Youth Choir. Nevin Zimmerman will return as
director, and plans are already being discussed for
Choir Tour next spring. The group will meet every
Wednesday afternoon from 4:45-6:00 beginning
Wednesday, August 30th. They will sing in the
morning worship service at Covenant on the first
Sunday of each month from October-May, and will
also sing throughout the year for other special
occasions. We hope to see all 7th-12th graders at
choir rehearsal! "Sing praises to God, sing
praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises."
Psalm 47:6
CALLING ALL SINGERS!!!
We are excited to announce that the Adult Choir will
resume rehearsals in September, and hope that many
of you will be able to participate. If you're too old
for the Youth Choir, then you're a candidate for the
Adult Choir! We will meet for rehearsals on the 2nd
and 3rd Thursdays of each month, from 7:30-9:00
p.m. at the church. The choir will then sing in the
Sunday worship services on the 3rd and 4th Sundays
of each month. Babysitting services will be provided
without cost to you by members of the Covenant
Youth Choir, and details about this program will be
provided to those who need this service. Rehearsals
for September will be September 14th and
September 21st. Please mark your calendars
now and join us for our organizational meeting and
first practice on September 14th. For more
information please contact Nevin or Gigi Zimmerman
at 265-4333 or Nevinz@aol.com.
Children's Choir will begin on
September 20th when the Wednesday night activities
begin. This year the children will have choir practice
from 6:30 - 7:00 pm. Children's Choir is for ages 3 -
6th grade and we hope parents will make every effort
to involve their kids in this important ministry.
Come join a choir--there's a spot for everyone!

Kiev Orchestra and Chorus Coming
This Month!
Our church is joining with First Presbyterian to bring
the Kiev Symphony Orchestra & Chorus to the
Marina Civic Center on September 29, 2006. The
Kiev Youth Orchestra and Chorus presented an
impressive concert to a packed house at First
Presbyterian in 2004. Imagine the beauty and power
of this senior professional group, which is almost
twice the size of that youth orchestra & chorus. The
approximately 150 musicians of KSOC will present an
exciting concert featuring choral and symphonic
masterpieces as well as spirituals and works by
American composers.
This is a major undertaking that we hope will reach
thousands of music lovers throughout Bay and
neighboring counties. The concert will be promoted
widely in churches and schools and with appropriate
general publicity. We are seeking financial support
from the business community to defray the expenses
of presenting this concert free to the community.
Music Mission Kiev, which organizes the U.S. tour,
asks that we invite the musicians into our homes for
their overnight stay in Panama City . This gives us
a chance to experience Christian fellowship with our
guests and reduces the cost of the project. Church
members also will be asked to provide a covered dish
supper for the group on the evening of the concert.
Later this summer we will give details of how you can
help us with this project.
Jonathan Hayes and Walt McClenny of First
Presbyterian are heading the Concert Committee. If
you would like to join the folks helping to make this
happen please contact Jonathan at hayesjh@gmail.com or 832-7803.
News from the Diaconate and Session
The Diaconate has elected Doug DeVries as its' new
chairman and Jonathan Hayes as Vice-Chairman. Jeff
Wit will continue as Secretary. Please feel free to
contact any Deacon with questions or concerns.
The Session has regretfully accepted the resignation
of George Baker from the Diaconate. George has
served in that office faithfully and his contribution of
time, talent and wisdom will be missed.
The Pregnancy Resource Center
The Pregnancy Resource Center is
beginning another Post Abortion Recovery group
beginning Tuesday, September 19th. This is an 11
week program that is held at the Pregnancy Center.
We will meet from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. To register, or
for more information please call the Pregnancy Center
at 763-1100. All correspondence is confidential.
You can also contact Laura Knetzer at
lauraparg@com
cast.net for more information.
Youth Choir Garage Sale
The Youth Choir will have its first fundraiser in
September and they need your help. Please donate
any GOOD used items that you don't need
any more, such as kitchen items, videos, tools, small
working appliances and toys. We'll need a limited
amount of clothing--please do not donate clothing
that has stains, rips, etc. We will collect the items
in the Youth House from September 1-15. If you'd
like to help us sort and price the items, please
contact Gigi Zimmerman or Deb Hinkle for more
information.
Covenant Christian School
As Covenant Christian School enters the second
month of the 2006-2007 school year the faculty,
staff, students and parents are settling in very
nicely. Planning is underway for the Fall Festival in
October as well as Veterans' Day and other events
for the fall.
We have decided to not pursue a Bible teacher for
the high school at this time. The high school Bible
classes are being covered by Bob Hayes, Garry Kent,
and Tom Bingham. We will reevaluate our ability to
hire a Bible teacher later in the fall semester.
If you are interested in helping out as a substitute
we are always looking for subs. Just come by the
office and fill out an application to start the process.
We praise the Lord for a great school year and look
forward to what he has in mind for us this year.
Please pray for a number of our faculty/staff and/or
their family members who have serious health issues.
