"Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."            Philippians 2: 9 - 11
Covenant Youth Choir Finishes Their 17th Annual Tour

The Covenant Youth Choir traveled to Chicago from May 27-June 1 singing at three churches, a Christian School and a Rescue Mission along the way.  The theme this year was on the holiness of God.  Stephen Moss led the choir in their bus Bible studies as they viewed Dr. R. C. Sproul's series on Fear and Trembling which went along with the tour theme.

The group found time to enjoy several adventures in Chicago including a sail on Lake Michigan on the Tall Ship Windy, a walk down the "Magnificent Mile" on Michigan Avenue, the exhibits at the Museum of Science and Industry, the top of the Sears Tower, the Lincoln Park Zoo and they watched the C ubs beat the Dodgers at Wrigley Field!

The picture above is of the choir at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Chicago!    Singing from the balcony behind the congregation was a real treat ~ the acoustics were incredible.  The church bought an old Polish Catholic Church that was built almost 100 years ago and refurbished it.

The choir wishes to thank the members of Covenant Presbyterian Church for their support of the choir for all these years.  Many of the current students were not even born when the choir first started back in 1992!  Thank you, Covenant!

Join us for a concert by the Lakewood Youth Choir.  This church graciously hosted our Youth Choir several years ago, and now we have the opportunity to return the hospitality.  Homestays are still needed.  Please contact Ashley Devries at ashleydevries@gmail.com to volunteer to house students.

The choir theme is "Metamorphosis" featuring contemporary Christian music, skits and dramatic presentations.  Their tour takes them along the Gulf Coast and will wind up in Port Arthur, TX for 5 days helping with rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Ike.

Sunday Morning Fellowship Teams

The college students are now here!  Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to be "host parents" to these students while they worship with us.  For some this will be their first experience in a church fellowship and we want it to be a memorable one for them.

From the Deacons

Fellowship Hall announcement!

The walls in the Fellowship Hall have been carpeted.  This eliminates the need for painting and with limited traffic against it the carpet will last for 10+ years.  The biggest benefit is that the noise level in the Fellowship Hall with large groups of people will be so much lower and more enjoyable for everyone visiting inside of it.  Everyone who has seen it so far has commented how much nicer and classier it looks.  Also,  after talking with the carpet folks, it turns out this is far more common than we realized in rooms similar to the Fellowship Hall.

Note: there was a small flaw in the color on the roll and a portion of the north wall is darker. We realize this (as did the installers) and the company is going to replace that section next week.

Parents of small children:  please help us keep kids from being too rough with or excessively touching the walls.  We know little kids (or even adults) touching it can't be prevented 100%, but if we can keep it as minimal as possible it would be appreciated!

Announcing our New Nursery Coordinator:

Dawn Welch is now heading up our Nursery Ministry.  We are very grateful for the many years that Katie Schneider has served so selflessly, so while she is taking a sabbatical, Dawn has graciously agreed to serve.  But in order to meet the changing needs of our nursery, we need more volunteers, especially during Sunday School and the morning service .  If you are willing to help, just six times a year, please contact Dawn Welch at 785-3309 or by email rdvjg@comcast.net .

Mercy Ministry Point of Contact:

If you need to pass along a ministry opportunity to the Deacons, please contact Doug DeVries at pagrus1@knology.net or 769-9291.
