Mercy Uganda Banquet
a Big Success!
Veronica
The Mercy Uganda Banquet, which was held Thursday evening, October 22nd, was a wonderful success and an inspiration.  Our guest speaker, Veronica Nakyewe (pictured above) came all the way from Uganda and shared her awesome testimony with us.  The proceeds from the banquet have allowed us to provide money for the medical care we have been pursuing for Lawrence.

The proceeds are also helping us meet other medical needs, and get the Water For Kalangaalo Fund going.  In order to dig a well for this precious remote village we must raise $10,000.00.

This is one of the most critical projects to date and will provide better health, hygiene, and overall living conditions for this village.

Thank you to everyone who came to the banquet, to our choir members, accompanists, and our dear ladies who made such wonderful desserts for the event.  We appreciate your love, support, and prayers for this ministry and for our sisters and brothers in Uganda.

Mercy Uganda Child Sponsorship Project

Laura Knetzer is hard at work on the child sponsorship effort of the Mercy Uganda ministry.  She has over 500 packets of information available on children for those interested in sponsorship.

Levels of sponsorship range from $150.00 per year for non-boarding students, including daily lunch provision, to $350.00 per year that includes boarding, school and food. For more information on child sponsorship, contact Laura

Also, visit the Mercy Uganda website and the blogspot for highlights of the children and other ministry opportunities. Currently, they are collecting women's hygiene products, children's clothing and seeds to carry to Uganda on the next trip.

  • Operation Christmas Child - The Shoe Box ministry of Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse whereby we are asked to fill one or more shoe boxes with specified gifts for girls or boys (2-4, 5-9, or 10-14) for distribution in third world countries. They can be returned any time and placed under the Usher's Table in the Sanctuary but the deadline is noon, Sunday, November 22nd. Shoe box labels are available on the Usher's Table. Contact Agnes Godert, 871-1906, for more information.
  • Santa is a Senior Citizen - This year Covenant is responsible for about twenty residents of Lisenby Nursing Home and we will take all the gifts at one time and provide a Christmas party for them. In addition to the gifts, we will need folks who will go and help with the party. Point of Contact:  Bob Hayes.
  • Angel Tree - part of the ministry of Prison Fellowship, provides Christmas gifts for the children of incarcerated parents. Twenty children have been assigned to Covenant. Those who purchase the gifts are responsible for getting the gifts to the children before Christmas. Point of Contact:  Bob Hayes.
  • Good Samaritan Ugandan Orphans - Again we are seeking to raise gifts in $25 blocks which will provide a sanitary water bottle (a project two years ago brought clean water to the area), a new blanket, and some toiletry items. Deadline is November 29th. Point of Contact:  Bob Hayes.
  • Thanksgiving/Christmas Baskets - Our annual project to collect canned goods and raise funds to enable us to purchase fresh food items for baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Point of Contact:  Bob Hayes.
  • Mercy Uganda Child Sponsorship - see above and contact Laura Knetzer for more information.

If you wish to make a monetary gift to the Ugandan Orphan Fund or for Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets, please clearly label your contribution for proper disbursement.

Women in the Church

The Covenant WIC Retreat was held October 23 & 24 at the Courtyard by Marriott.  About 25 ladies gathered for a wonderful time of fellowship, encouragement, and laughter. They spent the weekend getting to know more about their sisters in Christ through various games and a hilarious fashion show, as well as making crafts and eating lots of food!

The ladies came away from the retreat with door prizes, hand-made jewelry & cards and fireside coffee thanks to the Delmar girls--Glenda, Emily & Kristie--but especially revitalized and energized in our service to each other and to our church family.

Kids' Quest Catechism Club has gotten off to a great start this year!  The children are having fun learning the truths of God's Word as they are presented in the Catechism for Young Children. The older students are focusing on the Ten Commandments, while the younger groups are learning about the Bible and Adam and Eve.  All of the students are working hard to recite their answers each week, and they are looking forward to our end of the semester celebration on November 18th!  It is not too late to join us for music, games, and more. We meet in the library each week at 6:30!
