Covenant WIC Fall Retreat

Plans are underway for a Covenant Ladies Fall Retreat on October 23rd and 24th.  The retreat will begin Friday night with a catered dinner and then an evening of fun and fellowship.  After breakfast on Saturday morning, we'll have more opportunities for fellowship, worship and prayer and end before lunch.  More details will follow soon, but mark your calendars now and line up those baby-sitters--we want all Covenant ladies to attend.  Contact Glenda Delmar for more details.

WIC Structure Committee

On Thursday, October 8th at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, a group of ladies will be meeting to review the current WIC structure, review other possible organizational models and recommend a new WIC structure for adoption.  Anyone who would like to participate in this administrative task is invited and encouraged to attend.  Contact Martha Middleton for more information.

Circle News

The Tuesday Morning Bible Study (that formerly met on Thursday) soon will be beginning a new study about the disciples by John MacArthur, "Twelve Ordinary Men".  They meet in the Library from 11:15 am - 1:00 pm every Tuesday.  Contact Nancy Jinks or Martha Middleton for more information.  A Nursery is provided.

The Saturday Morning Prayer Circle will meet Saturday, October 10th at 8:30 pm in the home of Carol Ault, 93 Oakleaf Court, PCB.  They will be studying Romans 7.

Baby Shower

Please mark your calendars for a baby shower for Michelle Marble who is expecting a precious baby girl in late October.  The shower will be Saturday, October 3rd from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon at Kristie Delmar's home (1701 Montana Avenue ~ Lynn Haven). Since the Marble's had their first little girl about 2 years ago, they have many of the essentials and clothes needed, therefore diapers and gift cards would be a great way to bless them.

Michelle's husband Dave is in the Air Force and they will be moving in early December so we only have a short time remaining to fellowship with them. For more information or driving directions, contact Tammy Hayes  or 785-2857.

Syria
"Finding Refuge in Christ"

"Majid understands the misery and heartbreak of fleeing one's homeland.  His family has had to leave Iraq twice--first to Jordan to escape the oppression of Sadaam Hussein's regime, and later to Syria to escape the violence of street gangs.

Majid came to know Jesus Christ during his family's sojourn in Jordan through a local evangelical church that offered assistance to refugees.  Majid, his wife, and their three children began attending worship services at the church and were later baptized.  They returned to Baghdad in 2006, eager to start anew.  But within weeks, he was kidnapped by a gang of armed men.  For days his wife received no word of his whereabouts.  His captives finally let him go after his employer paid the ransom.  He was warned to leave Iraq immediately.  Majid and his family sought refuge in Syria.

Life is hard in the new country.  There are no jobs, and substandard housing is all they can afford.  But Majid and his wife have found joy by leading teams of Christians that visit and minister to the neediest Iraqi refugees in Damascus.

His ministry was strengthened when he had the oportunity to distribute gift-filled shoe boxes from Operation Christmas Child.  This is the first year that shoe box gifts have been delivered in Syria.  In April, Majid helped give boxes and Gospel booklets to refugee families.  He prayed with them and shared the Good News of the eternal refuge they can experience in Jesus Christ.  Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children as they opened their gifts encouraged Majid's heart too.

'When families know that the church takes care of children, they want to come,' he said.  'We are seeing the church grow because of the joy these boxes bring.' "

Please pray
  • for displaced Iraqi families who grieve for their homeland and desire to return someday
  • for Iraqi refugee children in Syria who will be receiving shoe box gifts this year
  • for our ministry partners in Syria as they reach out to their neighbors and share the Gospel

Voice of the Martyrs

Two Iranian Christian Women Still Held in
Evin Prison

Voice of the Martyrs

Maryam Rustampoor, 27, and Marzieh Amirizadeh, 30, were arrested and sent to Evin Prison in Tehran, Iran. The two women did not rob a bank, kill a man or beat up someone.

Their crime? Loving Jesus. And it is for this reason alone they are still imprisoned.  In August during a court hearing, the two were questioned repeatedly about their faith. They were told to return to Islam.  "We love Jesus," was their reply. Prosecutors asked the women, who had already spent five months in prison, if they regretted being Christians.  "We have no regrets," they said. "We will not deny our faith."  The judge sent them back to Evin Prison - notorious for its brutality - to "think about" their decision.  "We have already done our thinking," they told him.

Maryam and Marzieh are among dozens of Iranian Christians arrested, detained or interrogated in Iran in recent months. The harassment is the radical Islamic government's response to an Iranian revival that has thousands of Iranians coming to Christ each month.

The Voice of the Martyrs helps the Iranian church in many ways, including supporting gospel television broadcasts transmitted into Iran and printing Christian literature for distribution inside the country.

This month we invite you to make a special contribution in support of our work with Iranian believers. In addition, VOM just released "Restricted Nations: Iran", a new book about Christ followers in Iran. This book can help you understand the history of the church in Iran and offer an effective way to pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters living there today.
